The mountains above Los Gatos have their own weather and their own time, and the redwoods up here don't much care what's happening in the valley below. The house has been a home: you can tell by the way it's built, with five bedrooms, Douglas fir beams, hardwood floors and light-filled rooms. Two fireplaces have seen a lot of winters. A kitchen where people cook and linger. Decks where somebody watched the fog come in off the Pacific. The land is eight acres and most of it is forest, real forest, with trails a kid could get lost in for an afternoon and come back hungry and dirty and better for it. There's a fire pit set in a ring of old redwoods for quiet nights. Then there's the studio. Detached, private, with its own entrance and its own life...the kind of space a teenager disappears into and comes out an artist, or a musician, or just needs a landing pad. A parent who finally has a real office. And the cottage, where rumor has it the Doobie Brothers played once, which wouldn't surprise anyone who knows that Chateau Liberté, the mountain roadhouse that inspired their 2021 album, sits half a mile down the road. Los Gatos is ten minutes down the mountain. The high school there is as good as they come. A place like this doesn't come available often.
